Lincolnshire Sash

[Contents] Back ] Next ]

Rather like a Yorkshire Sash but made in Lincolnshire, half the window is fixed and the other half slides sideways to open. If it is slid completely open it can be removed for ease of cleaning - otherwise you can't clean the outside of the sliding half unless you're up a ladder.  It is made of oak, of course, but this window has been painted on the outside with real linseed oil paint.  The inside has been treated with tung oil to let the oak shine through. It is double glazed with 6.4mm laminated float glass on the inside for enhanced safety in a vulnerable low level location, and mouth blown cylinder glass on the outside to look pretty and match other old glass in the building into which it will be installed.  The sliding sash is held fast with a wooden peg.

It was easier to photograph on my dining room table than after fitting three stories up.

Here's another Lincolnshire Sash, this time with 4-16-4 double glazed sealed units.  The glazing bars are about 33mm wide to allow a rebate wide enough to cover the spacer and sealant of the dg unit.  The sliding sash is secured with a threaded brass finger bolt.  Nice plants in the conservatory.
